MISCHA BARTON Celebrity fashion lines just keep on coming…

By Sharon Feiereisen

If there’s one thing that there is no lack of, even in these hard economic times where billionaire heiress’ like Kira Plastinina’s stores abruptly close, celebrity fashion lines just keep on coming. The latest to join the likes of the Olsen sisters, Rachel Bilson, and Nicole Richie is 22 year old actress Mischa Barton. Following a handbag collection for the London-based Ri2k, which is already in its third season and is sold in England and in Australia, the scenester is launching a headband line for Stacey Lapidus.

The launch announcement couldn’t come at a better time given that Barton also has two upcoming films — “Assassination of a High School President,” due out in March and “Bhopal: A Prayer for Rain.” WWD is reporting that the headband venture, a signature of Barton and many of other young actresses and socialites,  came about when, earlier this year, Lapidus spotted photographs of Barton wearing one across her forehead thus convincing the designer, a former accessories editor at Vanity Fair, that a collaboration could work. Lapidus says “she’s definitely known for being bohemian and for her hippie look, but then you will turn a page and see her in head-to-toe Chanel. I tried to put both the bohemian and the classic into the collection.”

The Mischa Barton for Stacey Lapidus line consists of six pieces for holiday decorated with pearls, beads, crystals, sequins and flowers and the collection is priced from $80 to $200. The Barton pieces initially will be sold at staceylapidus.com, but Lapidus plans to expand distribution to boutiques that sell her signature line.

As for Barton’s handbag line is says she’s going for a Seventies vibe for fall 2009 saying, “even though I’ve always taken a page from vintage bags that I have and love, I think now I’ll be able to push that a little bit further and do more in terms of embellishment and embroidery. Now I really feel like I have their confidence in me. People want to see that you can deliver and do, like, a good job.”
