Clarissa was in a league of her own on the show, Clarissa Explains it All. While often compared to Blossom, I feel that there was no comparison. While Blossom hid herself in baggy and colorful (yet, gawdy) clothing, Melissa’s style was ”tomboy meets girly-girl”. She would often pair florals with tights or jeans and even wore an infamous midriff top (at the beginning of her show) with Doc Martens. She was real and experimenting with style just like any girl of the 90s’ was and it somehow balanced out. Just like Clarissa, we were fighting with the forces of feminity and masculinity during our teen years. And that’s what makes her a “Style Icon”.
