Cirque du Soleil’s Newest Show
Cirque du Soleil continues to mix fashion, art, fun, and entertainment with their newest show coming to Chicago.
Cirque du Soleil (French for “Circus of the Sun”) is a Canadian entertainment company self-described as a “dramatic mix of circus arts and street entertainment”. Based in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, each show has circus styles from around the world, with its own central theme and storyline. Art and music collide with these electrifying shows. It’s a spin on the “New Circus” without using live animals. Instead, they use continuous music and performance, instead of stagehands, to change the props. They play shows in over 40 countries, producing 15 shows in every continent except Africa and Antarctica. Cirque’s shows include KOOZA, LOVE, Mystére, La Nouba, Wintuk and their newest show coming out in Chicago. Several more shows have developed around the world including a television deal and a women’s clothing line. Not only does Cirque du Soleil do a great job of infusing music with acrobatics, but they fuse art and fashion together. I don’t think art doesn’t just imitate life!
Speaking of their newest show in Chicago, Cirque du Soleil is putting a contemporary twist on Vaudeville by infusing this classic form of theatre with a modern flair. This brand new type of Cirque du Soleil production will feature comedy, dance and song. The show will be an exciting fusion of genres, directed by David Shiner accomplished comedic actor, Broadway creator and director of KOOZA from Cirque du Soleil. The official show name will be announced in early September 2009.
