KCET PRESENTS ‘THE HOUSE OFCARDINALI’ ON NOVEMBER 2
TO LAUNCH ONLINE AUCTION OF COUTURE ORIGINALS

Auction Preview Features Runway Show with Commentary by Designer Marilyn Lewis and Todd Newton Showcasing Signature Cardinali Collection to Benefit KCET

KCET, public television for Southern and Central California, is the recipient of a unique gift: the personal collection of Cardinali couture clothing donated by its creator Marilyn Lewis. With 85 garments in the collection, the gift spans the designer’s
incredible fashion career, which captured the attention of trendsetters for more than a decade. On November 2, at 7:00 p.m. PT, the donated collection will be auctioned online, with proceeds to benefit KCET. At 9:00 p.m. KCET premieres The House of
Cardinali, a one-hour program showcasing 85 pieces from the donated collection, available for bidding through November 12 at www.kcet.org/cardinali.

Featuring commentary by designer Marilyn Lewis and hosted by Todd Newton (motivational speaker and former E! host), The House of Cardinali features a retrospective fashion show from 2005 of selections from the donated collection, including diaphanous
silks, signature Cardinali tweeds and couture gowns with hand beading. Also, among the designs are original pieces made famous by Marlo Thomas in That Girl and the dress worn by Dyan Cannon on her first date with Cary Grant. In addition to being
broadcast on KCET, the special will be available for viewing online. The House of Cardinali is a KCET production. Producer is Caroline Armitage. Director is Jonathan X. Executive Producer is Bohdan Zachary.

The Cardinali fashion house dressed Hollywood’s elite,including Marlo Thomas, the darling of the 1960s hit series That Girl – putting Cardinali at the center of the fashion world. From coast-to-coast in the best social circles, well-heeled women wore
Cardinali. Critics hailed Lewis’ designs as avant-garde and truly original.  The collection was in the windows of Bergdorf Goodman, Bonwit Teller, Saks Fifth Avenue and the Beverly Hills Cardinali boutique.  Marilyn Lewis was prominently featured in
numerous top fashion publications, including Vogue, Women’s Wear Daily, and The New York Times. Lewis made an indelible mark on the fashion world and her creations continue to influence today’s top fashion designers.

The auction, which is being managed by Auction Cause, will run Monday, November 2 at 7:00 p.m. PST through Thursday, November 12.  Auction Cause will also be available to answer questions about the garments or the auction: 323-655-0554.

Trompe L’oeil…Appliqué…What do these words mean? They are styles of jeans that I’ve been seeing around my workplace. Trompe L’oeil is a type of velvet French print that’s becoming a big trend for the winter season. Velvet no longer belongs to blazers and tuxedo pants.

It’s not just Trompe L’oeil that’s getting all the attention, it’s all kind of prints on jeans. You will see everything from grafitti to flowers. Of course you can create your own “grafitti” jeans with a Sharpie or spray paint, but you can learn how to get your very own trendy pair of appliqué jeans. It’s the Fashion Guru Blog’s First Year Anniversary! I am delighted to say that I can’t believe how this blog progressed. It originally started out as something I did for fun, but turned out to be one of the most important things in my life. It’s something I want to carry on with for a long, long time. And I’ve met a lot of great people because of this blog.

I’ve been getting my feet wet in the freelance writer pool. Besides my blog, I have a few projects on the side lately, and that could affect how often I may update on here. I’m still debating on doing blog posts only four days a week.

But onto happier news, I applied to the Examiner and I am now a Boston Fashion News Examiner. You can check out my page here. The link will also be on the right hand side of this blog, under “Intro”.

I really don’t want to advertise myself, but it’s a part of my job as an Examiner. I’m still getting a feel for the web site, but I hope that you like it. I will be providing news on the latest trends and stores in the Boston, Massachusetts area. I think this will be a fun experience for me and I hope that it works out. My Verdict: Not

Leave them alone! You can make them more like your 3-D characters from Finding Nemo and Monsters Inc., but don’t change their looks! That’s how we grown to know them and recognize them.

Warning: This is going to be a poor review of Project Runway. Yesterday, the designers had to create an outfit inspired by the museum they went to in L.A. (I forgot because I was tired and bored by the episode.) I wasn’t really crazy about the dresses they created, yet again. Gordana’s was surprisingly pretty, except from the back. I don’t remember who won the challenge, but two were supposed to get knocked out and those two were…Chris and Gordana. No surprises, really. Chris is going to make it without them! So it’s now up to Althea, Carol Hannah, and Irena to wow the judges at Bryant Park. I hope Althea wins. She’s the most talented and Irena certainly doesn’t deserve it. I also hope there’s going to be a Project Runway reunion. Just because they went over to Lifetime, doesn’t mean they shouldn’t get one! I can’t wait to stop blogging about this crazy, disastrous, and boring season!

In case you’re wondering what happened to my “Top 10” list yesterday, I’ll give you the scoop. I published an article I found on the web that I thought would be a great topic, which was “The Top 10 Fall Jeans of 2009”. Now, it says on my blog that I would never claim anything as my own. I’m a freelance writer and I understand completely on having your work stolen. I’d be devastated if that happened to me! So why would I steal someone else’s work? No, I source every picture and article that I find. If you find that it’s not properly source, let me know. I would never put my name on anything that isn’t written by me.

But the person of that article threatened me to take the article down or they would take legal actions against me. I’m going to be more careful now with whose articles I decide to put on my blog. Even though I provide sources, some people don’t know enough to skim at the bottom to see their name or web page at the bottom.

I just wanted to be up front about this, and give you all a heads up about what’s going on. This is a warning for other bloggers out there as well. Be careful about what you put on your blogs!
