Facebook App Helps Consumers Decide Between Products Based on Friend Feedback
November 15th, 2011; Winston Salem, N.C. –The Variable (www.thevariable.com) has officially launched Stucck (www.stucck.com), a Facebook application designed to aid consumers in deciding between two products for purchase. Stucck is an innovative e-commerce and social media application conceived, designed and launched by The Variable that enables a consumer to poll their Facebook friends on what to buy when “stuck” deciding between two products. Its interface displays an intuitive side-by-side comparison of the two items, and aggregates the user’s Facebook friends’ comments and votes for each in real time – ultimately; helping them make a more informed purchase decision based on advice they trust.
Stucck aims to help consumers navigate the advertising saturated marketplace by giving them a way to gather only the most trusted product reviews – that is those from family and friends. The first virtual application of its kind to use social media as a consumer decision engine, Stucck applies the age-old truth about the power of personal, word-of-mouth recommendations.
For Stucck’s beta launch, featured product categories include books, movies, music, shoes, fashion and wireless. Stucck also features easy to use privacy settings that can be modified at the user’s convenience. For example, if buying a gift, users can keep a Stucck hidden from the intended gift recipient by simply changing the Facebook share settings.
Stucck uses peer-to-peer social networks as a consumer’s decision engine for purchasing goods, utilizing the value of personal feedback and puts the power squarely in the users’ corner. There is a rapidly growing relationship between a user’s social graph (web of social connections) and their ability to reference it for making choices. Stucck brings it all together.
“The fact is, the more customers research their purchase options on the Web, the more frustrated and confused they are becoming. Online product reviews are being overrun with paid marketing content and conflicting advice from people who simply don’t know you,” said Joe Parrish, Chief Creative Officer at The Variable. “We invented Stucck to make shopping an enjoyable experience again, something you can share with friends and make truly informed purchase decisions.”
The majority of consumers are having brand perceptions shaped and altered through social engagement. Brands fall into and out of favor as a result of the insights consumers are gaining from social media. In a case where the brand is not a category leader, the effect is more pronounced, and Stucck’s influence will play a greater substantive role than search in influencing brand perception.
Numerous studies support the notion that word-of-mouth is one of the greatest influences on brand choice. For example, in a study about the role of social media in consumer behavior from Harris Interactive, 71% of respondents said reviews from family members and friends trump all other consumer touch points when it comes to influencing purchases.
“Especially during the holiday season, Americans are bombarded with ads and promotions as every brand vies for your attention, and your wallet,” said Keith Vest, President of The Variable. “Stucck will be a game-changer, as consumers are going to have a place where they help each other decide which products are really worth buying.”

TOUCH SCREEN COMPATIBLE SENSOR TOUCH™ GLOVES FOR WOMEN & MEN
THREE DIFFERENT TECHNOLOGIES–THE SENSOR IS ACTUALLY PART OF THE MATERIAL:
NOT eLINK FABRIC ATTACHED TO FINGER TIPS–LIKE OTHER GLOVE MARKETERS
(Gloversville and New York, New York) Smart retailers and marketers know that every so often a “tipping point” arises in consumer products that fundamentally changes the way we live and interact on a daily basis. When this happens it’s not just a fashion trend but a cultural and social shift. The widespread use of touch screen mobile technology in business and consumer products is at the very core of this major shift.
The introduction of touch screen mobile technology has created an opportunity to service consumer demand for fashion accessories that complement and enhance our experience & ability to use touch screen devices. For fall ’11 Ciré by Grandoe is introducing our newest innovation; Sensor-Touch™ gloves designed to help people stay warm and stay connected. Sensor-Touch gloves are built to be touch screen compatible and fashionable. They will activate all touch screen devices including Smartphones, E-Readers, Tablets, MP3 Players, ATM’s, Fuel Pumps and GPS Devices.
Sensor Touch™ gloves are available in a variety of styles and fabrics, for both men and women, including products constructed with patent-pending TouchTec® Leather, Infi-Knit™ Technology and Conductive Thread Technology.
TouchTec® Leather is uniquely processed with Nano Technology to mimic the touch of the human hand. This allows the wearer of a TouchTec® Leather glove to activate a touch screen device without removing the glove and exposing their hand to the cold. Men’s style Apollo (suggested retail $90) and women’s style Cupid (suggested retail $80) are designed to be functional fitting, classic looking leather gloves that allow for touch point control. Both styles are available in Black S, M, L, and XL sizes, with men’s Apollo also being available in XXL.
Infi-Knit™ Technology gloves have conductive material weaved throughout the glove for complete connectivity. The wearer can use any part of the glove to active a touch screen device. Men’s style Socrates (retail $45) and women’s style Leto (retail $40) feature a Winterknit™ design that allows for a flexible and comfortable fit. Socrates is available in Black and Grey in sizes M, L and XL. Leto (WHICH WE SAMPLED) is available in Black, Grey and Red in S/M and L/XL.
Men’s styles Sors (retail $40) and women’s style Helena (retail $35) are designed using Conductive Thread Technology. These two styles, available in black only, have an embroidered conductive index finger and thumb that will activate a touch screen. These styles are made with active-wear fabric and a unique palm design for flexible fit and extra grip. Men’s Sors is available in M, L and XL. Women’s Helena is available in S, M, L and XL.
With the widespread use of touch screen mobile technology quickly being the everyday, the availability of touch screen compatible products is essential. Ciré by Grandoe’s® Sensor Touch glove line offers the necessary touch screen functionality while stepping up the style. ______________________________________________________________________________________________________
About The Grandoe Corporation: From modest beginnings as a leather glove manufacturer in the late 1800’s to its recent expansion into the footwear business, Grandoe has earned a well respected reputation as a leading producer of innovative and high quality products that enhance people’s comfort. Now under the ownership and direction of the fourth and fifth generations of its founding family, Grandoe currently boasts numerous patented and patent pending comfort technologies in its glove and footwear businesses. It’s well known brands include Grandoe®, Ciré by Grandoe®, and Stick It™ in gloves and accessories as well as smartdogs® and Hush Puppies® in slippers.
The Fashion Guru’s Review: These gloves are comfortable and stylish. You can wear them with a ski parka or a preppy peacoat. As for the touch screen mobile technology, it takes some time for them to respond. You need to wear your gloves for a few seconds before using your electronic device.
I was fortunate to sample a pair from Lipton Publicity. These are most heavy duty knit gloves I have ever worn. The suede palms makes it easy to grip the steering wheel as you trudge through the snow beaten roads. Beware though. The gloves are made from 55% lambswool, which is not good for sensitive skin. If your skin can handle the Infi-Knit, this would make the ideal holiday gift.
